1 아하수에로 왕이 그의 본토와 바다 섬들로 하여금 조공을 바치게 하였더라
아하수에로 왕은, 본토뿐 아니라, 바다 건너 여러 섬에도 조공을 바치라고 명령하였다.

2 왕의 능력 있는 모든 행적과 모르드개를 높여 존귀하게 한 사적이 메대와 바사 왕들의 일기에 기록되지 아니하였느냐
그가 그 막강한 힘과 권력을 가지고 이룬 모든 업적과, 모르드개에게 높은 벼슬을 주어서 영화롭게 한 모든 내용이, 메대와 페르시아의 왕조실록에 기록되어서 전하여 온다.
And all his acts of power and might, together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai to which the king had raised him, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Media and Persia?
3 유다인 모르드개가 아하수에로 왕의 다음이 되고 유다인 중에 크게 존경받고 그의 허다한 형제에게 사랑을 받고 그의 백성의 이익을 도모하며 그의 모든 종족을 안위하였더라
유다 사람 모르드개는 아하수에로 왕 다음으로 실권이 있었다. 그는 유다 사람들 사이에서 존경을 받았다. 특히 자기 백성이 잘 되도록 꾀하였고, 유다 사람들이 안전하게 살도록 애썼으므로, 같은 겨레인 유다 사람은 모두 그를 좋아하였다.
Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.
